XI Conference on Strategic Studies

CALL FOR PAPERS
October 7 to 9, 2026
The Center for International Policy Research (CIPI), with the co-sponsorship of the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO), announces the XI Conference on Strategic Studies, to be held October 7–9, 2026, in Havana, Cuba. The Conference on Strategic Studies is an academic forum dedicated to the systematic analysis of contemporary international processes, with special attention to power dynamics, structural transformations of the international system, and the strategies deployed by States and other actors in contexts of change and uncertainty. In its eleventh edition, the event seeks to deepen debate on the reconfiguration of the international order, from critical perspectives, with particular emphasis on viewpoints from the Global South. With the central theme Strategies of Power, Autonomy, and Interdependence in a Transitional International Order, the XI Conference on Strategic Studies invites researchers, professors, students, and specialists to present papers that contribute—through diverse theoretical-methodological frameworks and analytical perspectives—to the critical examination of ongoing transformations in the international system and the strategic responses they generate. Thematic Lines
  1. Structural changes in the international system: multipolarity, strategic rivalries, and emerging scenarios
  2. Strategic autonomy in contexts of complex interdependence
  3. Security, conflicts, and the redefinition of threats
  4. Multilateralism, global governance, and the crisis of international institutions
  5. Geopolitics and strategic resources
  6. Technological competition, artificial intelligence, and power transition in the international system
  7. The Global South in the transition of the international order: modular alliances, alternatives, and resistance
  8. Regionalism, integration, and South–South cooperation in a fragmented order
  9. Environmental, energy, and climate dimensions of international power
  10. Narratives, ideas, and hegemonic disputes in the transitional international order
The event will take place in person, although virtual papers may also be submitted. Participation will be under two modalities:
  • Papers presented in panels and special interventions.
  • Written papers, whose publication on the event’s website will be considered by the Organizing Committee.
Full texts must be between 5 and 10 pages in length and submitted by July 31, 2026 to the email address cee@cipi.cu. Submissions must include: author’s full name(s), academic degree, institutional affiliation, country of origin, email address, and contact phone number. An official certificate will be awarded to all panelists and in-person participants. A selection of accepted papers will be included in a digital repository of the event and may be considered for subsequent academic publications.
